DB599 made the pilgrimage to Selma, AL to commemorate the 61st anniversary of Bloody Sunday. The day began early in the morning, with brethren gathering to enjoy breakfast together, pray, and embark on our journey. On March 7, 1965, peaceful civil rights marchers crossing the Edmund Pettus Bridge en route to Montgomery, AL were brutally attacked, exposing the world to the ugly realities of white supremacy and voter suppression in the South. The impact of the nationally-televised event was immediate and significant. It stirred the conscience of the country, galvanized support for the Civil Rights Movement, and helped lead to the passage of the Voting Rights Act of 1965, a landmark federal law prohibiting racial discrimination in voting. Its legacy continues as both a symbol of sacrifice and a warning that progress is under constant threat. Bloody Sunday reminds us that the fight for freedom, dignity, and justice is never-ending. DB599 stood shoulder-to-shoulder with conscientious citizens from all over the world, as well as Freemasons and members of the OES from all parts of the country. What a day! The brothers of DB599 ended February strong! 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾 We had a very successful blood drive, with over 14 pints of blood donated. That blood could impact or save over 40 lives. 🏥 In addition, we sold out of our delicious fish plates. If you missed it, we’ll do our best to get you next time! 🥘 Many thanks to our collaborators, LifeSouth Blood Centers, the Adams Foundation, and Refuge Coffee, for helping to bring this event to fruition. A special shout-out to the good brothers of XL Neal #588 for stopping by and supporting our efforts. And, last but not least, much gratitude to those individuals and families who took time out of their day to donate blood or get a fish plate.
